RSE

As part of the SPHE programmes for Leaving Certificate (both Established and Applied), and Junior Cycle students, teachers of Grennan College deliver lessons linked to Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE). RSE is an obligatory requirement of the Department of Education and Skills but is taught at Grennan College in line with our School Ethos and Mission Statement.

RSE provides an opportunity for our young people to learn about relationships, friendships and sexuality in a safe environment, so they can learn to think and act in a moral and responsible way and be able to make better informed decisions in their futures. Learning through the specifications for SPHE (RSE components) will allow young people to develop skills to deal with peer pressure, conflict, friendships as well as developing a healthy understanding of the ever-changing world that they are an integral part of.

At Grennan College, we are fully aware that we are building on the conversations that you, the Parent/Guardian, would be having with your child at home. We encourage all Parents/Guardians to continue having conversations about the RSE programme in school. We understand the importance of being informed about your child’s education. We would appreciate your support by talking to your child about the RSE programme.

An overview of the specifications for each programme (Leaving Certificate, Junior Certificate) can be found by clicking on the links below. The modules/topics taught in each year group at Grennan College, based on these specifications, are age-appropriate and sensitive to the student needs.

Should you have any queries or concerns about the RSE modules, please contact the school and we will support you in any way we can.
